As we get closer to Memorial Day, we’re starting to think about summer and being outside and enjoying the outdoors here in the Granite State.
May is mental health month and that brings to mind food, family, sun, and some fun outdoors this Memorial Day.
Being outside in nature and how that affects us positively with mental health is what we’re going to discuss today. There are a couple of benefits nature and being outside can do for us.
First I want to start off with the idea that you have to devote hours to a mountain or a marathon surf session in the big blue to get the benefits you deserve and need to bring better mental health to your life….Nope! All we need is
10 to 20 minutes a day with the smells, sounds, and feels…yep that right the feels of nature in its many forms.
What are a few benefits of using our planet to help us??
Stress Reduction
Being a part of the outdoor world we all have around us will lower
cortisol levels which is the body’s main stress hormone.
Mood Enhancement
On the heels of our last fact, hiking a mountain, kayaking the lake or waving at me while you ride your paddle board during the next Hurricane will boost
Serotonin and Dopamine. These are key neurotransmitters that promote happiness and motivation 🙂
Fight the “Brain Drain”
While in the great outdoors we actually gain focus, attention to detail, memory and laser focus concentration!…who doesn’t need laser focus from time to time. Right!
Let Creativity Run Wild
When we leave our phones behind and get out there with our favorite activity in the water, or on land, we foster creativity and problem-solving skills,.
Keep it simple
Keep it Safe
Keep it Fun with this interesting stat i am going to lay on you
Nature’s 20-3-51-
20 minutes a day
3 days per week
51 weeks a year….because we need a vacation to break the rules to understand the rules. 🙂
May this assist you on your journey, Rockstar Nation!
